Death Knell of Religion

May 31, 2007 by rivalarrival · 3 Comments

Religion is dying, and it’s not the fault of Science, or Atheists, or “Satan’s influence”. Religion is dying through the same process that allowed it to dominate tribal superstition and spread like wildfire.

Why Are Atheists So Concerned About Religion?

May 30, 2007 by TJM Admin · 6 Comments

“If you are an atheist, why do you care about religion so much?” Sound familiar? I get asked this question more often than I can dare to recall. You know what? I think that it is a fair question; one which I am quite prepared to answer. Read more

We Remember…

Old Glory

This Memorial Day, we remember. We remember those that selflessly gave of their lives to ensure the freedom of ours. We remember the families of those who serve still at the behest of our nation for the freedom of those that will not stand up for themselves. We remember those families that have lost a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a father or mother to ensure the safety of our most prized possession: freedom. Unfortunately, it is something that most of us take for granted. Please, if you should meet one of these extraordinary families whose loved one is serving our nation, take the time to thank them for their sacrifice. As you enjoy your three day weekend on your boat, by your grills or at a ball game, take a moment to remember those that willingly gave of themselves the ultimate sacrifice so that you could enjoy your liberties unfettered. Though some of you may disagree with some of the viewpoints put forth here at The Jesus Myth, it is through their sacrifice that we are able to have a means of discussion such as this. Make a conscious effort when you see our nation’s flag unfurled in all her glory to reflect, if only for a moment, on those who enabled you to enjoy those freedoms we often take for granted. I know I will…

Iowa State in the News Again

May 27, 2007 by TJM Admin · Leave a Comment

Would love to hear your thoughts on this story.

Coach Gene Chizik, hired last November, wants to hire a chaplain who would be paid by private donations. Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard supports the plan because he contends student-athletes are under a lot of pressure and need access to spiritual guidance.

Even though it is being paid for by private funds, is this still a violation of church and state separation? And what about the Jewish students? Muslim students? Atheist? While student athletes are under a lot of pressure, surely a sports psychologist would be more appropriate….

Children and “God”

May 26, 2007 by TJM Admin · 11 Comments

This post is more of a reply to some of the comments I received to a previous post, “Keep Your God Away From My Child.” Several people said that children should be taught about religion at an early age (my daughter is 2, so that gives you an idea of how early they are thinking of). Not only is this absurd, but it is very dangerous as well and I will explain why. Read more

Golden Rule Breeds Intolerance

May 25, 2007 by rivalarrival · 47 Comments

We’ve all been told to practice the golden rule, and on paper, it looks like a great theory.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Short, sweet, and to the point, there is just no pleasing the person who is offended by this, right?

Yeah, lets see if we can blow this ideal out of the water.

Placing the Blame

May 21, 2007 by TJM Admin · 3 Comments

You have heard stories like this before. Christian Scientist’s children dieing from curable or treatable ailments simply because it is “against their religion” to take their child to a physician. A woman drowns her children in the tub because “God told her to.” (I am going to warn you right now that I am going to violate our COC because this just hits close to home.) Read more
