More Exposure for Atheists’ Blogs

September 15, 2007 by TJM Admin · 8 Comments

This entry is directed to those of you that have blogs related to atheism. I found an excellent new service yesterday that increased my hits and pageviews by about 25% quite literally overnight. Did you notice the newest widget on the right sidebar with the RSS feeds relevant to the posts? The service is Blog Rush. The concept is simple and direct and it works. Once you sign up for Blog Rush, you will be given a snippet of code to place the widget on your site. Every view that your widget gets, your feed is placed on another site’s widget. (So you get a 1:1 return on views.) If someone clicks on the part of the widget that says “Add My Feed,” they then sign up and add a similar widget on their site. (This is where some of the real fun comes into play.) Your feed will now get featured on another widget every time your widget is viewed AND when the new person’s widget is viewed. This goes on for 10 generations.

One 12 hour period, 25% more traffic… Waiting to see what will happen in the coming days. Oh, and did I mention that it is free? Feel free to watch the video for a more complete explanation here. I feel that it is important that all of our rational, free-thinking blogs get seen more often and I am sure you do too. If you do sign up for the service, please comment to let me know what you have experienced with it, positive or negative.

Gee, That’s Sad

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine the other day. During the discussion, the fact that I am an atheist came about and the following discussion ensued. Read more

Kathy Griffin and Jesus

September 13, 2007 by MissPDX · 6 Comments

So Kathy Griffin (famous comedian for those who don’t know her… and she’s also an atheist) receives the Emmy Award and in her little speech says “Suck it, Jesus. This is my God now.” The media is outraged. Fox News this morning had gathered four upset newscasters and other believers discussing this. They were all oh so insulted and angry and made sure we know how inappropriate this remark was. After all, as one of them put it, 85% of Americans are Christians. Where are the clergy? Where is Jesse Jackson? Why does she go unpunished? And what’s worse, why are people in Hollywood and in New York cheering for her??? Read more

An Atheist Homeschooler

September 12, 2007 by MissPDX · 6 Comments

“You are a homeschooler? And an atheist???” I have heard this question several times in the last 1.5 years since I started my homeschooling journey with my children. The idea seems absurd. Don’t people homeschool for the lack of religious education and prayer in public schools? Isn’t it “you people” who have banned those things from our public schools? Why, in “God’s” name would you homeschool? It seems I’m breaking into an elite. I’m going somewhere that only Christians should be allowed in. I’m the minority of a minority. Read more

“He’s an Atheist you know…”

September 8, 2007 by HannahW · 41 Comments

Today I had Driver’s Ed. Our teacher is an old school country-boy about 70 or so years old, very conservative. Now for all you Yankees out there (thats right, I said it) you should know that these guys invented the “can’t teach an old dog new tricks” cliche. Read more

How I lost my faith

September 4, 2007 by Luci · 3 Comments

My deconversion started early, but only in retrospect.

I never liked being religious, there were too many questions, and not enough answers. I could never understand the concept of a loving god. Why did people get sick? Why were some born black, had to live in a hut (in Africa) and others born rich, with the privileges that go with the skin colour? How can an innocent baby be born into sin? It made no sense. Nothing made sense. Why did an omnipotent god have to kill his only son? Why, why. Why were I not allowed to ask these questions? Why were there no plausible answers? I prayed regularly, but could literally feel my prayers bounce off the ceiling. It was going nowhere, and neither was I. I became increasingly frustrated that God did not show him to me in any way, shape or form. Never. Read more
