So I have been thinking about all of this Heaven stuff. If someone were to take away my daughter for 60 years, but tell me that I can see her in 60 years in Heaven I would be devastated. If someone I love dies and I live another 60 years without them, I would be devastated. Like I told my husband, either way it’s 60 years without the person you love being in your life. So I don’t really care if someone tells me that there is a Heaven. Thinking that the person I love is in Heaven isn’t a comfort to me. I am crying because I am going to miss him no matter where he is. When I was little I was told that when we cry at a funeral we are only feeling sorry for ourselves and being selfish. What we should be doing is celebrating because our loved one is happy now because he or she is in Heaven. Once again the Catholic Church steps in and fills us with guilt because we feel a certain way. I wouldn’t feel this way as much as I do, I don’t think, if I hadn’t had nuns and priests telling me this when I was young. I went to a Roman Catholic grade school and I was taught by honest to goodness habit wearing nuns so I got the information from the so-called informed. All I can say is…Thanks for the guilt!
60 years without…

I am not much of a christian to say the least, but I feel this comment even for an atheist is bogus in terms of slandering an organization/church without revealing all aspects of it’s fundamentals before passing judgment on the charter of that particular fraternity if you will. All I have read thus far is attacks and redicule based on people’s emotions as opposed to intellect.Subjective rather then objective which for most conditions is crippling for the focus of reality.

The purpose of this site isn’t to convince others. It’s to share feelings as well, and this is my interpretation of my religion. This is MY religion, nobody else’s. I was raised Roman Catholic, attended a Roman Catholic grade school as well as college, and I can tell you that there is NOBODY else who feels the way that I do. I didn’t write it to convince you of anything, and why is it so wrong to be subjective? It’s supposed to be. I think that you missed my point.
Ummm…Isn’t the catholic ‘religion’ Christ’s?…and should be accepted and believed as the founder would have you believe? Also,he has not given authority to any one person to interpret(subjective) but to know, love and serve the charter layed out? So it would cease to be catholic if the format and system has been altered by an apprentice as oppose to it’s master and founder’s blueprint(ideology)to which is true for any organization! So I think at length you my dear are missing the point…
Fallen, Re your first comment: Religion is a fantasy.
When the same evidence used to support God can also support the “Chewbacca Did It” religion, there’s something wrong with your basic premise.
There is nothing wrong with building an immense fantasy world; Disney has done it quite successfully. Getting lost in that world, to the point that leaving it is immensely traumatic, is an entirely different story.
When you cannot recognize the differences between your fantasy and reality, there is a real problem.
What is religion? This question will be the undoing of many sects and show exactly what atheists are made of I’ll wait for your answer…then I’ll prove why thorough study should be paramount.Even better still I’ll make you a coushin of victory before humbling you to tears. Why humility and virtue win over proud men.Why truth needs only an IQ of 26 to dispatch lies and lovers of it!Be my guess…
A fair question, “What is Religion?”
I use two definitions. First, and more predominantly, Religion is “Beliefs and practices that regard the supernatural as fact”
The second definition I use when speaking of individual rights: “Beliefs, practices, and attitudes concerning the supernatural.”
If you wish to have a discussion, please avoid ad hominems and insults. I have nothing against you as a person, I simply find your opinions lacking substance.

You know, you are right. He has not give any one person the right to interpret. “he has not given authority to any one person to interpret(subjective)”. So I think that includes all priests, bishops, etc, doesn’t it? And why can these people interpret, if you will, if I can’t? We all have the same information. Just because they have gone to a seminary doesn’t mean that they have a direct line to God. I know that you don’t know the experiences that I have had, but you will have to trust me when I say that pulling away from the Chuch because of my direct experiences with it has caused me a lot of pain and guilt.
