Some of you may have read this article already. (I know there are quite a few stumblers here)
I have no words. I honestly have NO words. I have been trying for about 15 minutes to come up with an intelligent sentence and I just cannot do it!
The guy, this 50 year-old Eagle scout who says “oh don’t worry about me I’m fine, but he’s the devil” and then complains when the judge gives him 25-45 saying that its basically a death sentence, he is exactly what is destroying this country. Men and women like him are bane, a plague if you want to get biblical, on our country, on our very planet.
Anyone familiar with my writing on TJM, be it comment on others essays or my own, know I am not a militant atheist. I don’t condone atheist “churches” or anti-evangelism any such thing but Goddamn it this the last straw! I am tired of being looked down on for my lack of belief. I am tired of being afraid of ignorant men like this.
For some of you this is a very far away incident. You live in urban areas, diverse areas. Maybe you live far north in New York or maybe you live out west in LA, but either way you are far from these people. You don’t drive past “mega-churches” everyday. You don’t deal with people on a DAILY BASIS who genuinely believe that you are going to burn in Hell and be tortured and raped for eternity and have no problem telling you.
That is the life of an atheist around religious people like this. I can only imagine what it must have been like living in the company of this man for more then 10 minutes after he found out his roommate was an atheist or as he puts it so eloquently “the devil”.
Christians can complain all they want about being a minority but they don’t have to worry about waking up missing the front of they’re face just because they’re roommate found out because they believe in some 2,000 year old Jewish zombie man god!
Anybody out there know how to start an organization? I mean a real, legit organization? I want to start the Larry Hooper Association Against Religious Fanatics. If theres already something like that out there, please direct me too it, but if not then I’ll start it myself.

Hannah,
David (TJMadmin) has another project in the works over at AAUPC.org. Last I heard, he was working with a lawyer, trying to figure out some of the issues in starting a non-profit organization.

Correct you are, Rival. And still working at it. For those interested, it will be relaunching right after we finalize The Jesus Myth 2.0. More on that in a later post…
