I guess I better say something… :)

February 16, 2008

Having been absent pretty much all of December, January and most of February, I am definitely pruning material. :)  It’s been a hectic time around here. Homeschooling, writing a book, my grandma passing away, big fat fight with ex-husband over my daughter have taken their toll. But another thing has kept me from writing much here or on my blog (An Atheist Homeschooler). I started feeling tired, annoyed, exhausted by this newly found passion of mine = atheism. While I have been an atheist most of my life, it was only recently (for about the last year) that I have started to voice my opinion, do my research, debate with religious and non-religious folk, and realizing just how difficult this subject is.

I have met a lot of awesome people, who are incredibly supportive and kind… and I have met those, who are hostile and mean, who are closed minded and attack anything and anyone who does not flow with the stream. I have been struggling against the stream, reading books, writing articles, defending my non-belief… and I have done it with so much passion and energy, that I felt drained by the time the holidays came around.

Well, I’m back, quieter maybe, with not as much energy and time… but with the same passion and very much wanting to support TJM with a little blurb here and there. It’s good to be back, people. :)

Let’s Pretend! (another rant about the US)

October 2, 2007

Just to ease the pain of most Americans let’s pretend that George W. Bush is a peacemaker. Most other countries fear him more than Ahmadinejad. Why is that? Are all of these opinions wrong? Can we proceed with impeachment hearings…just for fun?

History Channel: Liberal or Conservative?

August 9, 2007

Originally I was going to write a piece on how the intense Christian slant on the History Channel has ruined most of its programming for me. So, I started my research with a simple google search, “history channel christian slant”. The websites I got back….were not what I wanted…..at all. Read more

Would the Real Christians Please Stand Up?

August 8, 2007

One of the basic problems that I have with many religions is a simple one: who are the true “role models?” How many times have you heard this said, “Oh, yeah…but he’s/she’s not a real Christian?” Far too many. Read more

Atheist and Christian Spouses

August 4, 2007

Can it ever be?

This post is not so informative as it is a simple question. It is a question that has dogged me for some time. The two philosophies, on opposing sides, can they allow love between them?

I’ve heard stories of success, of an atheist and a Christian able to set aside their differences and love each other. They’ve been able to raise their children successfully. How do they do it?

I’ve also heard of how difficult it is, to do this. Be it from the Christian being told to hate the atheist, and their families and companions shunning the atheist. Or from the atheist being incapable of tolerating the folly of the Christian, or something of that nature.

Or perhaps it is little details of religion that separate them. Such as death/the afterlife, issues like abortion, even some details of politics.

What can be done?

The God Who Wasn’t There (Review)

August 3, 2007

The God Who Wasn't ThereSure, it’s been out for a while, but I just watched it last night. I find that I have to look at this objectively, which is a bit hard tot do. After all, after studying this stuff for over 16 years, you amass quite a collection of books, videos and other forms of information. As you can imagine, it is quite hard to find something that is “new” to what you have already seen. Unfortunately, I was expecting more than what this 50 minute film brought to the table. (Personally, I blame the pre-release hype for my expectations.) Read more

Atheist’s Murderer Sentenced

August 1, 2007

http://vassleer.newsvine.com/_news/2007/01/03/504714-murdered-for-being-an-atheist

Some of you may have read this article already. (I know there are quite a few stumblers here)

I have no words. I honestly have NO words. I have been trying for about 15 minutes to come up with an intelligent sentence and I just cannot do it!

The guy, this 50 year-old Eagle scout who says “oh don’t worry about me I’m fine, but he’s the devil” and then complains when the judge gives him 25-45 saying that its basically a death sentence, he is exactly what is destroying this country. Men and women like him are bane, a plague if you want to get biblical, on our country, on our very planet. Read more

Ridiculous…

July 29, 2007

You want to know what I think the real problem is with most atheists? Apathy. Some of you are so complacent in your lives and have absolutely no desire to stand up for what you believe (or do not believe) in. Read more

Interview with Warren the Pastor

July 25, 2007

About a month ago I posted a request for interview questions to ask a local priest. I got the questions, but the priest said no. So I did some searching and I dug up a very helpful Baptist Pastor named Warren. He was a good guy, and was very polite, he answered all my questions candidly and never tried to turn it into a sermon or tell me the error of my ways. He didn’t even hang up on me! (That happened earlier with a different pastor)

So without further a due:

Me: Hello Pastor, thank you so much for taking the time to speak to me.

W: My pleasure. I have no problem talking to atheists, I think Jesus would want me to talk to you. Read more

Carl Sagan and His Dragon

July 19, 2007

“A fire-breathing dragon lives in my garage”

Suppose (I’m following a group therapy approach by the psychologist Richard Franklin) I seriously make such an assertion to you. Surely you’d want to check it out, see for yourself. There have been innumerable stories of dragons over the centuries, but no real evidence. What an opportunity! Read more
