Coming soon…

June 12, 2007 by TJM Admin

You won’t want to miss this, folks! TJM has been in contact with Nicole Smalkowski over the past couple of days and she has decided that she would like to post and share her story with the viewers of TJM!

For those of you that are not familiar with her or her story, we have posted the following video. I am sure that all of our viewers will have plenty of comments and questions for her. We here at TJM could not be more proud of a student of her age taking a stand for what she believes (or does not believe) in.

UPDATE: 06/13

Just heard from Nicole and she is currently in LA with her Dad’s band (she’s the drummer). She will get back home on Mon. and will be writing after that.

OH MY GOD! (not really), I really wanted to know what happened in her life ever since I saw the video on video.stumble.com

I was SO moved by the video that I started a thread back home (Atheist/Agnostic forum) on May 31 2007. Here is a link, http://atheistagnostic.group.stumbleupon.com/forum/71426/

I’m looking forward to her post. Congrats Dave, you make us so proud. and BTW, welcome to TJM Nicole.

What an amazing girl… I’m so proud of her and the integrity she displays so well. Thanks for posting the video and welcome Nicole!

I look forward to supporting her thoughtful position and offering her the respect that has been so hard and well-earned.

I’m an Atheist and a teacher in the Southern United States and I am terrified of making that fact well known. It would be akin to economic suicide. The “Separation of Church and State” is broken when it comes to schools in the United States, especially in the south. To openly declare oneself an atheist in my part of the country is to commit oneself to a life of alienation and poverty, although the alienation part is already a reality. I am awed at the courage of the young girl in the video.

From the ‘bible belt’ to a complete life force sucking disease - this country is sliding down a dangerous slope to irrelevance.

Perhaps, through TJM, we could set up a scholarship fund for Nicole? I for one would contribute.

It angers me to see how believers group together to try to smite atheists. I am also 16, and I am the only atheist in New Jersey it seems. None of my family or friends is an atheist. The only one I knew now claims he is Christian because he’s afraid of being picked on. He actually converted out of fear. I fear if I tell anyone the truth, that I will be put in Nicole’s situation. I hope she sees better days. As for me, I will keep it a secret. I just hope one day I can be accepted. I also hope that my school doesn’t make me do a prayer after wrestling matches.
