Now that we’ve hit Jehovah’s Witnesses over the headHere, Here and Here, it’s time for someone else to get their turn in the “My religion says I should prefer death to proper medical care” barrel.
Muslim woman are not allowed to be viewed by men outside the family, not even by physicians.
Pregnant Belgium Muslim woman needs an emergency cesarean delivery, only anesthesiologist available is a man, and the woman’s husband bars his entry into the operating room.
At this point, a rational person would have the husband arrested, but our doctor doesn’t do this. Instead, (After TWO HOURS) an Imam is consulted - the anesthesiologist is permitted to apply an epidural injection, but only if the woman is completely covered except for a small patch of skin. During the surgery (conducted by a female OB/GYN) our anesthesiologist is relaying instructions and observations through a nurse: he is forced to stand in the hallway while his patient is in surgery.
Fortunately, the surgery went OK. It could have turned into a disaster: had the mother or child died during the procedure, the anesthesiologist would be responsible for their lives. This doctor risked his patients’ well being - and his career - following the religious beliefs of a sexist, bigoted religion.

I’ve heard of this. This is stupid. Really, really stupid.
Also in the stupid category are those operations some Muslim women receive to reattach their hymens to “re-virginize” themselves.
Sheesh, save me from religionists….
It is utterly amazing was some people will believe in.
The first reaction is to chuckle at such nonsense but then you realize how scary such beliefs and how they carry them out can be.

I’m a Muslim .. and I say this guy is an IDIOT .. he’s taking one thing literally from the Holy Qur’an and leaving MANY MANY more important things which are also mentioned in the Holy Qur’an .. He thinks he’s a good Muslim, maybe he is, but this act just proves he knows NOTHING about Islam ..

I doubt you’ll find much sympathy for your cause here… The problem is that Islamic belief is based on stupidity. You call it “Faith”, among other things, but at the core of it is a rejection of reality in order to “rationally” accept a fantasy.
You are idiots. You’re not alone, if that makes you feel any better: the majority of Americans and a large portion of the rest of the world are also delusional jackasses.
If you talk to 100 self-described Muslims, you’ll get 100 opinions on who is a “true” Muslim. Salad Bar Islam, just like Salad Bar Christianity. Millions of people doing what they want and justifying their actions as being in accordance with the rules laid down by their all-mighty benefactor.

I think that guy is an idiot, for failing to understand that there are exceptions within Islam for women to unveil themselves. That guys definitely deserves to be called an idiot. But to take this incident and use it to conclude that Islam is an idiot ideology is a logical fallacy itself. I am not saying Islam is not an stupid; I am saying that is a completely different discussion which should not be influenced at all by this incident or any other ones.
Even if Islam is/were a stupod idiology, this incident serves nothing but to introduce another idiot individual to the civilized world.
*Off topic, “Our Philosophy” is an intersting Islamic response to materialism, specifically empiricism and positivism. Written back in the 70’s by Ayatullah Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr, before being burnt alive by Saddam Hussein and translated to English; can be found in English with a google search!

You are correct, painting all Muslims based on the actions of one idiot is a logical fallacy, as is arbitrarily selecting derogatory information about one system of belief.
But, is it logically fallacious to say that this guy’s actions were based on a desire to follow Islam? Does Islam have a system to prevent this kind of idiocy? The answer, of course, is no, it does not. This behavior is supported and justified by other self-proclaimed Muslims who both you and I would consider idiots. There is no definitive standard that says “Despite these two men claiming to be Muslim, this man is a Muslim, and this one is not” Without that, the idiot in the article is just as correct as Bianconero, or you yourself, and Islam can legitimately be called idiotic. So can every other religion, for that matter.
To be arguing over religions, which are all fantasy, and without any facts, is truly silly.
We are in a world now, that could not be comprehended by the inventors of these backward beliefs, and it’s idiotic to give them any credence at all, unless you think we need more wars, based on their mad outdated ideas.
