More Exposure for Atheists’ Blogs

September 15, 2007 by TJM Admin

This entry is directed to those of you that have blogs related to atheism. I found an excellent new service yesterday that increased my hits and pageviews by about 25% quite literally overnight. Did you notice the newest widget on the right sidebar with the RSS feeds relevant to the posts? The service is Blog Rush. The concept is simple and direct and it works. Once you sign up for Blog Rush, you will be given a snippet of code to place the widget on your site. Every view that your widget gets, your feed is placed on another site’s widget. (So you get a 1:1 return on views.) If someone clicks on the part of the widget that says “Add My Feed,” they then sign up and add a similar widget on their site. (This is where some of the real fun comes into play.) Your feed will now get featured on another widget every time your widget is viewed AND when the new person’s widget is viewed. This goes on for 10 generations.

One 12 hour period, 25% more traffic… Waiting to see what will happen in the coming days. Oh, and did I mention that it is free? Feel free to watch the video for a more complete explanation here. I feel that it is important that all of our rational, free-thinking blogs get seen more often and I am sure you do too. If you do sign up for the service, please comment to let me know what you have experienced with it, positive or negative.

I was raised as a conservative Christian (Calvinism). For me, my ‘enlightenment’ was gradual and took many, many years and a great deal of thought and pondering. It still does on the eve of my 67th birthday.

I can see clearly now how religion controls people, especially politically.

That said, I also see value in churches as neighborhood or area social centers. Just no longer as a center of ‘truth’.

Everyone needs to belong somewhere, feel needed and wanted, and be able to contribute. In this way, churches can contribute greatly as long as it is without strings attached. This is, in my opinion, where atheism falls short.

How does atheism falls short in this? Atheism is not a religion, therefore no church gatherings. It’s like saying homeschoolers get no socialization because they’re schooled at home. It’s just not true.

Atheists have friends, sports clubs, meetup groups (go to meetup.com and you will find a whole bunch of atheist groups). Aside from that, how can you be sure that “everyone needs to belong somehwere”? Maybe we feel that belonging somewhere doesn’t have much to do with a church? Maybe belonging somewhere for some of us means our own families? You know?

    :)

I like the idea. I used your site as a reference so my 300 hits a day should put some traffic your way too.

Mana, I chose Religion. (Only cat that was close)

Joe, Thanks! I think that we should get everyone in the AB to go so! By the way, we should speak again sometime!

PS, Early adopters of the service are getting bonus credits.
